San Diego Cheap - Want to know how to take a vacation in San Diego CA cheap?

Good news... you can take a vacation in San Diego cheap. With the economy the way it is these days everyone is looking for a break. Luckily, besides the obvious things like the 33 beaches, parks, and nature preserves, there are plenty of other free and cheap things to do. I decided to make a special section for people who are looking for fun on the cheap.

1.San Diego Cheap Arts and Culture

- North Park Nights and Kettner Nights. Free art exhibitions by local artists. Ray at Night is the second Saturday of every month and Kettner Nights is on a Friday every few months. www.rayatnight.com; www.northparknights.org

- Museum of Contemporary Art, located in both the downtown San Diego and or La Jolla, for free daily admission for guests 25 years and younger. www.mcasd.org

- The International Cottages in Balboa Park have free open houses every Sunday with ethnic food, song and dance. www.balboapark.org

- Art Mart (2nd & 4th Saturday & Sunday Each Month) Talented artists display their creations at Balboa Park. Jewelry, sculpture, woodwork, paintings, and more. 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

- Free museum Tuesdays for San Diego residents and military. Each Tuesday (except 5th) different museums have free entry.

2. San Diego Cheap Music and concerts

- La Jolla Concert by the Sea at Scripps Park 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm. Different bands play every Sunday during the summer. There is also raffles, prizes, hot dogs, candy, drinks, popcorn, and ice cream bars. www.ljconcertsbythesea.org.

- Coronado concert series every Sunday in Spreckle's Park.

- Pacific Beach Concert on the Green on Sundays 4:00 pm-6:30 pm during the summer at Kate Sessions Park.

- Balboa Park summer concert series. Free concerts at the Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park. www.sosorgan.com.

- Point Loma Summer Concert 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Bring folding chairs and snacks to Point Loma Park. www.plconcerts.org.

- College area Sunset Summer Concert 5:00 pm-8:00 pm at Clay Park. www.collegeareabid.com.

- The SDSU open air theater has concerts that you can listen to from the grassy area above the theater.

3. San Diego Cheap Sports (besides the obvious surfing, biking, hiking, rollerblading, skateboarding, snorkeling, jogging, kayaking, golfing, frisbee, etc. that there is to do all over)

- Take free fly-fishing lessons from the San Diego Fly Fishers club on Sunday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon at Lake Murray, located in La Mesa.

- U.S. Olympic Training Center, the nation's first warm weather, year-round Olympic training facility, located in Chula Vista. Free tours of the 150-acre lakefront facility are offered at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; tours begin at the Copley Visitor Center. www.usoc.org

4. San Diego Cheap Science

- Stargaze outside the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center on the first Wednesday of every month during "Gazin' with the Experts," as members of the San Diego Astronomy Association set up huge telescopes and offer guests a great view of the moon, planets and brighter stars. www.rhfleet.org

- Explore the clear shallow tide pools of La Jolla Cove and Point Loma when the tide is low and the pools are teeming with aquatic life.

- Watch the grunion run during the summer nights. Every night around 10:30 pm the grunion (small fish) flop onto the shore to lay eggs. Ocean Beach is a great place to see them.

5. Street Fairs

- Almost every neighborhood in San Diego has a street fair now. From CityFest to Oktoberfest to Adam's Avenue there are a ton of them all throughout the year. Check the master calendar for a list of all the city events... http://www.sandiego.gov/specialevents/printer.shtml#complete

6. San Diego Cheap Movies

- Movies in the park. Many local parks and libraries have free movies.

- Sometimes you can get free tickets to movie screenings from different websites like http://www.filmmetro.com/cities/main/16

- AMC theatres have $5 movie tickets if you go to an early showing. Ultra Star cinemas have coupons for adults to pay the child's price and on Tuesdays it is $5.50 movie night.

7. Views

- Mt. Soledad
- Mt. Helix
- Cowles Mountain
- Torrey Pines State reserve

8. Farmer's markets... shop for fresh local fruit and vegetables

- City Heights every Sat. 9am- 1pm
- Old Town every Sat. 9am- 3pm

9. Pick up a San Diego Reader or a Buy 1 Get 1 Free magazine...

- Both are filled with discounts and coupons. The Reader also has happy hour lists and all the events going on around San Diego that week.

10. Strip Clubs

- You can get free passes to almost every strip club in San Diego by picking up a Gentleman's Club newspaper from one of the street corners. There are a few corners downtown that have them, and I'm sure other places have them, too.

11. San Diego Cheap Nightclubs and bars

- Almost every club downtown has a guest list for free or reduced cover before a certain time. Try going to www.eventvibe.com or www.djhere.com to see a few examples of guest listed clubs.
